독성각 현판
북악산 백사실 계곡에 위치한 현통사 독성각 현판.
독성각(獨聖閣)이란 독성(獨聖)인 나반존자(那般尊者)를 봉안한 전각(殿閣)을 뜻한다.
반(般) 대신에 반(畔) 자를 쓰기도 하는데 이는 범어 음의 번역에 기인한 것으로 본다.
나반존자란 지(智)를 갖춘 옛날 존자로
톈타이 산에서 혼자 도를 닦아 연각(緣覺)에 이르렀으므로 ‘독성’(獨聖)이라 이르며
독성각에 모셔져 있다.
말세의 복(福) 밭이라 하여 신앙(信仰)하는 아라한(阿羅漢)이기도 하다.
