장승 조각가 김수호 - 고향 예천 소식
장승 조각가 김수호(41·예천읍 청복리) 씨는 U대회 양궁경기를 앞두고 지역을 찾는 외국인 선수 및 관광객들에게 예부터 마을 입구에서 평안을 주고 재액(災厄)을 막아주던 마을의 수호목인 장승을 통해 우리의 멋과 향기를 전하기 위해 자비를 들여 한달여의 작업을 거쳐 제작하게 됐다.
제작된 장승의 이름은 옛 것을 익혀 새 것을 안다는 뜻의 `온고지신(溫故知新)'으로 높이 13m, 지름 1m이다.
현재 충북 청양군 칠갑산 장승공원 내에 방유석 씨가 세운 높이 11.5m인 칠갑산 대장군과 여장군 보다 무려 1.5m나 더 높은 국내 최대 규모다.
`온고지신'이 세워진 곳은 U대회 양궁경기가 열리는 진호국제양궁장에서 34번 국도변으로 1㎞가량 떨어진 곳으로 김씨의 작업장 및 전시실인 장승마을 입구에 있다.
